Job Description
The Procurement Head will be responsible for overseeing all procurement activities related to the large greenfield project, ensuring that the acquisition of project supplies, equipment and services is done efficiently, within budget, and in compliance with statutory and organizational policies. This role will focus on devising procurement strategies, managing vendor relationships, and supporting the project team with budgeting and cost estimation, and establishing robust procurement systems and processes that can support the current project and future expansion.
Job Description
As part of the project’s development, you will carry out the following responsibilities:
Procurement Strategy & Execution:
Lead all procurement activities for the project, including sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts for project equipment, supplies and services, with particular focus on major capital and project items.
Develop and implement effective procurement strategies, ensuring that all sourcing decisions are aligned with the project’s budget, timeline, and quality requirements.
Leverage foreign trade policy and trade treaties to optimize procurement processes, particularly for imported project equipment and materials, securing the best possible landed cost, terms, and quality for the project.
Project Budgeting & Estimation Support:
Collaborate with the project team to assist in budgeting and cost estimation activities, ensuring that procurement costs are accurately accounted for in project plans.
Provide insights and recommendations to the project team on procurement-related budget adjustments and potential cost-saving opportunities.
Vendor Management & Relationship Building:
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials and services.
Monitor vendor performance to ensure compliance with contract terms, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
Resolve any procurement-related issues or disputes in a professional and efficient manner, maintaining positive vendor relationships.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure full compliance with all statutory requirements, including indirect taxation, customs processes, tax regulations, and import/export requirements, with a good working understanding of their commercial impact on project procurement.
Adhere to organizational procurement policies and procedures, ensuring transparency, accountability, strong system discipline, appropriate documentation and ethical sourcing practices throughout the procurement process.
Regularly audit procurement processes to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Project Delivery & Timelines:
Ensure that procurement activities are carried out within the project’s timelines and budget, minimizing delays and cost overruns.
Act as a key contributor to the project’s successful and timely delivery by ensuring that all required supplies and services are procured in alignment with the project’s goals.

To succeed in this role, the following qualifications and skills are recommended:
Experience:
15-20 years of experience in procurement within large-scale industrial projects, with strong experience in procurement of project equipment, materials, services, and logistics.
Previous experience working in a project environment, with an understanding of project timelines, budgets, and vendor management.
Exposure to international procurement and logistics is preferred, particularly in dealing with customs processes for capital goods.
Experience in large, project-intensive industrial organizations such as Vedanta, Jindal, JSW, Essar, Adani or similar organisations is preferred; prior MNC experience is not mandatory.
Skills:
Strong understanding of procurement strategies, contract management, and supplier negotiations.
Knowledge of foreign trade policy, trade treaties, and international procurement practices, customs processes and the indirect taxation environment relevant to project procurement.
Ability to manage procurement activities efficiently, ensuring that costs are controlled, and timelines are met, while operating within structured approval processes and strong governance systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt procurement strategies based on evolving project needs. Good working knowledge of SAP procurement processes is required.
Education:
Engineering degree (mandatory).
Post-graduate qualification in Business Administration (MBA) is advantageous.
